Spring Fever

We moved the music out of the house, which happens every year about this time.  As soon as the temperatures permit we move our Friday pickin' to the out building shop area. We've been out there for the last three weeks.Dsc_0006 A hot new picker joined us this year, Scott McMillion, all the way from the state of Washington. That's him in the dark blue shirt, just ripping on that mandolin.

Robert Yonke Art at the Old Settler's Music Festival

The Old Settler's Music Festival kicks off tomorrow in Austin, Texas.  Our new friends FastFrame and Prickly Pear Galleries, based in Austin, will be selling my prints and cards in the arts and crafts area.  I'm told they will have other music related arts and crafts as well, so be sure to visit their booth if you're lucky enough to be attending this event.

Ice Jam 2008! Yee Haw!

Well, once again, Butler, Pennsylvania's Ice Jam, was a stellar event for bluegrass fans and pickers alike. Our stay was short but nice...caught up with some old friends and met some new ones. Here are some pictures.Icejam08_012

Butler Ice Jam

I found this article in the Trib about the Ice Jam coming up this weekend in Butler.  I'll be there on Saturday hoping to pick a few...I'll try and take some pictures too.  A lot of the local folks from my neck of the woods are quoted here about this annual jam.

Some Bluegrass Christmas Cheer

For the second year in a row, the regular Monday night "Fiddle and Banjo" jam from The Coffee Mill in Radford, Virginia took to the streets to bring bluegrass cheer to fellow townsfolk.  The Roanoke Times has the full story and provides this video:

More Randy Thomas & Friends

You can catch J.C. Hollis, Randy Thomas and myself at the Mt. Fresh Farmers Market in Oakland, Maryland this Saturday Morning from 10am until 1pm.  They are having their annual corn roast...so come on out for some hot corn and music.  Farmers_market

Randy Thomas & Friends

My buddy Randy Thomas got a mention in The Times West Virginian today in Stella Parton:  More than Dolly's sister.  Randy Thomas & Friends will be playing on Friday September 7th at the Sagebrush Round-up in Fairmont, West Virginia.   I happen to be a "friend".  We'd love to see you come on out next week.

Bluegrass at Mt. Grove

Nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Good food, good people, good pickin. Chet Roth puts these on regularly in Mt. Grove and if you're into down home fun make sure you get by here some time. I'll post the exact dates of the next one shortly. Meanwhile here are some photos.  Also noted that the Old Trails Inn has a "For Sale By Owner" signs.

Love a Good Jam

I love to hear, read about and most of all join in a good old jam.  Some of the best ones crop up where you'd least expect them.  My favorite was the Friday night special at the Deer Park VFW in Garrett County. Things change, and the VFW jam is no more.

Books-A-Million looks like they've got something good going on down in Longview, Texas.  If you have pictures from your favorite jam that you'd like to see posted, send them along to info@appalachianstudio.com.
