New Retail Partners

Over the winter we added some new retail partners.  In Texas, you can purchase prints and cards from Austin's Fast Frame and the Prickly Pear Galleries.    A little closer to my stomping grounds, you can purchase bluegrass art cards at the House of Musical Traditions, located in Takoma Park, Maryland.  Cards from the Garrett County and Outdoors Collections are now available at the Pro-Shop at the Adventure Sports Center International in McHenry, Maryland as well.

One of the fun things about this work is that you get to meet and talk with folks all over the country.  Give us a shout at info@appalachianstudio.com if you're interested in placing cards, prints or originals in your shop or gallery.

Claire Lynch Band Contest

Claire Lynch challenges fans to write their life story in six words.   Contestants can submit their bios to Claire and the winner receives an iPod Shuffle, pre-loaded with all six of Claire's Rounder Record releases.
This sounds like a pretty good challenge.  Visit
April News from the Claire Lynch Band for more details.

Robert Yonke Art at the Old Settler's Music Festival

The Old Settler's Music Festival kicks off tomorrow in Austin, Texas.  Our new friends FastFrame and Prickly Pear Galleries, based in Austin, will be selling my prints and cards in the arts and crafts area.  I'm told they will have other music related arts and crafts as well, so be sure to visit their booth if you're lucky enough to be attending this event.

A Personal Note of Thanks

If you're a regular fan of bluegrass and spend time in the "bluegrass nation", you'll agree that it is a tight knit and friendly community.  Attend IBMA's World of Bluegrass or any other event and you'll see that the "stars" in this world are a different breed of celebrity.  My feelings about this were recently solidified with the following personal experience:

Our friend Dennis was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  He was hospitalized immediately and is facing an extensive round of hospital stays and treatment over the next few months.  Dennis is an avid bluegrass fan and has done much to expand the love of this music among his widespread circle of friends and family members.   He is also an extremely upbeat person and has brought much joy into many of our lives...he's one of those guys that always brings a smile to your face when you see him.  Knowing that we have some contacts in the industry, his wife asked Petunia if we could possibly get some of his favorite artists to either call or leave a positive message of support for him on his CaringBridge page.  Petunia sent emails to some folks that we had met along our travels as well as some that we had never met before.  We did expect a positive response from those that we contacted, knowing what kind of folks they were.  We had no idea, however, of the speedy and heartfelt responses that our request would generate.  Within a matter of hours, Dennis received several messages from some of his favorite musicians.   These artists have busy schedules and lots of fans.  The fact that they would step out and be so kind to someone they do not know really speaks volumes about what kind of people they are.  I'd like to thank Claire Lynch, Audie Blaylock, Missy Raines and Tim Stafford and Blue Highway for their much appreciated gestures of kindness.

Thank You!

I'd like to thank some folks for the recent press they provided me with regarding my IBMA art.   The Mandolin Cafe and The Bluegrass Blog both posted about the work last week.  Also, David Grove, webmaster for www.pabluegrass.com was kind enough to post my story on Topix and the Western Pennsylvania Bluegrass Board.   The bluegrass community is a friendly one, and I truly appreciate the support.

David Miner

Last month we posted about our new friend David Miner.  Sadly, David passed away last week.  Our sympathies go out to all his friends and family.  Flint Hollow has posted a tribute video to Dave on their site, www.flinthollow.com.

Jim Curley's Mountain Music Shoppe

If you're looking for a real musical mecca, check out Jim Curley's Mountain Music Shoppe in Shawnee, Kansas.  The Shoppe describes itself as a "music shop dedicated to old-time, bluegrass and vintage musical instruments and accessories".   This is more than a music shop, however.  The Shoppe's most current email newsletter lists a variety of events and shows taking place over the next few weeks including seminars, private lessons with accomplished musicians and live shows.  For a great overview, read more about Curley, a nationally recognized dulcimer player, and his store in Andrew Miller's article, Mountain Range.
