More Randy Thomas & Friends

You can catch J.C. Hollis, Randy Thomas and myself at the Mt. Fresh Farmers Market in Oakland, Maryland this Saturday Morning from 10am until 1pm.  They are having their annual corn roast...so come on out for some hot corn and music.  Farmers_market

Randy Thomas & Friends

My buddy Randy Thomas got a mention in The Times West Virginian today in Stella Parton:  More than Dolly's sister.  Randy Thomas & Friends will be playing on Friday September 7th at the Sagebrush Round-up in Fairmont, West Virginia.   I happen to be a "friend".  We'd love to see you come on out next week.

Cleaning Up The Bluegrass Painter

Lasershaircut_026 Well, I guess they couldn't take it anymore...the scruffy look that is...so the kids took it into their own hands to clean up the Bluegrass Painter.

IBMA Award Nominees

Congratulations are in order for all of the talented folk up for IBMA awards this year. This past July we had the pleasure of cruising to Alaska on the Cottage Music Bluegrass Cruise and on that same cruise were these nominees.

Blue Highway...Vocal Group of the Year and Instrumental Group of the Year

Infamous Stringdusters...Emerging Artist and Album of the Year

Claire Lynch...Female Vocalist of the Year

Missy Raines...Bass Player of the Year

Rob Ickes...Dobro Player of the Year

Jim Hurst...Guitar Player of the Year.

Greg and Carla, good job, you know how to pick 'em.

Thanks Murphy, Red, Chris and Marshall

The Queen Bee and I went up to Penn Alps this past weekend to see the Red Henry family with guest Marshall Wilborn in the Great Hall...Marshall filled in for Red & Murphy's son Christopher who was playing at the Grand Ole Opry.  The Great Hall at Penn Alps is a terrific, small venue for any kind of musician, and especially appropriate for the Henry family style bluegrass. Lots of original material along with down home culture and humor. If you ever get a chance...see them. All of the members are strong instrumentalists .  This speaks well for their instructional Murphy Method CD selection. Want to learn to pick...these folks can teach you and you can view and buy their instructional material on line . Want to have fun...these folks can entertain.

The Swanton Mall

Here's another one that I just finished up recently, The Swanton Mall.  This store is located off of Rt. 495 in Garrett County.

Back to Work

A few folks have mentioned that the ole Bluegrass Painter hasn't put up any paintings recently, so I thought I should post a few pieces to show that I still put in some time on the board. The week before last I had a chance to tour the Adventure Sports Center International's man-made whitewater course at the top of the Wisp Resort in Garrett County, MD.  Yes, that's right, I said "man-made"...Here are a couple watercolor sketches inspired by the course, currently titled Whitewater I and Whitewater II.  I'm not a paddler, so I'm having some trouble naming these.  Anyone coming up with something better, please feel free to comment.   The last painting takes me back to the bluegrass world with a painting based on a band rehearsal.  I'm still working on a title on this one too.

Monday Morning Wind Down

Guess I need a Monday just to get rested up for more weekends like this past one. Friday was a real kickin' party at Will O' the Wisp on the shore of Deep Creek Lake. Eddie the bass man threw this one for his mom, Scotty and had some good ole boys do the music. Aside from some sound problems early on, it worked out well.

Saturday, The Mackin Family bluegrass band played for a BBQ cook off of the Turkey Neck Yacht Club. Fourth year they've played here and a hit as always. John, Wendy, Jack and Erin put out a lot of energy.Mackins_054

...and a super sunset made the family entertainment just the best.

Design Changes

We're testing some new page designs.  Please be patient as we work to determine the best layout and color schemes to showcase the photos and artwork that Bob posts.  Posting will continue as we work through the changes, so keep checking in with The Bluegrass Painter.  Comments are welcomed.

Fiddle Hangout

Fiddlehangoutbig_2 Well, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention Fiddle Hangout, another great web site from Eric Schlange.   Petunia even posted a couple of my prints for sale in the Classifieds Section.  Fiddle Hangout looks to be as promising as its counterpart, Banjo Hangout.
